A Study in Scarlet is a 1933 American crime film. Despite the title, it is not an adaptation of the eponymous novel, but a largely original work which draws more from The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton and the non Holmesian work And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.
Holmes is portrayed by Reginald Owen, who had previously played Watson the year prior. The film's star name is Asian American film icon Anna May Wong.
