Benedict Cumberbatch, CBE (full name Herbert Benedict Timothy Cumberbatch) is the actor who portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the BBC adaptation, Sherlock.

He is also known for doing voice work for roles such as Smaug and the Necromancer in The Hobbit trilogy, Agent Classified in 2014’s Penguins of Madagascar, Shere Khan in 2018’s Mowgli: Legand of the Jungle and the Grinch in 2018’s The Grinch.

- In the summer of 2011, Danny Boyle created a National Theatre production of 'Frankenstein' in which Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller played the creator and monster and alternately changed nightly. Both actors then went on to play another Victorian creation Sherlock Holmes, both set in the present day, albeit opposite side of the Atlantic.
