The University of Cambridge is a large and famous university located in Cambridge in central England. Founded in 1209, it is one of the oldest universities in the world and is known as one of the world's leading scholarly institutions. The university consists of over two dozen colleges, of which King's College and Trinity are the most well-known. The bonds between colleges are somewhat looser than in many universities, although they all pull together in the rivalry with Oxford University, the other great British institution of higher learning with a similarly lengthy history.

"The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter"[]

Cyril Overton of Trinity College enlists Holmes and Watson's help locating Godfrey Staunton. Staunton is the three-quarter of the college's rugby team, and both traveled to London for a big game against Oxford. After receiving a telegram and a middle-aged visitor, however, Staunton disappeared, and Overton fears the team will lose the match unless he is found.

Holmes eventually travels to Cambridge after learning that Staunton sent a telegram to Dr Leslie Armstrong, head of the school of medicine. Armstrong is brusque and unhelpful towards Holmes, and manages to evade his attempts at tracking. However, after Overton wires Holmes advice to borrow a tracking dog named Pompey, Holmes manages to tail Armstrong to a cottage outside the village of Trumpington. There he finds Staunton weeping over the body of his dead wife, who died of consumption and for whom Dr Armstrong had been caring.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows[]

James Moriarty attended university at Cambridge, where he was known not only for his outstanding intellect but for his talent at boxing (earning the title "Boxing Champion of Cambridge"). Later, Moriarty accepted a professorship at the university.[1]
