Godfrey Norton is a British lawyer who resided in the Temple District of London.
In 1888, he married Irene Adler, after which he and his wife fled the city to escape from Sherlock Holmes' investigation of them on behalf of King Wilhelm of Bohemia.
According to Irene's letter, her and Godfrey's marriage was a true love match, and she even described her new husband as a better man than her former lover, King Wilhelm.
Godfrey was described to be a remarkably handsome man: dark, aquiline, and mustached.
- In the 2009 Sherlock Holmes film, set in 1890, Irene Adler said that she had divorced her husband for being boring, jealous, and snoring.
