The Hôtel du Triomphe was a luxury hotel located in central Paris, directly across from the Paris Opera.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows[]
In 1891, the hotel was the site of a business conference attended by Alfred Meinhard, a German industrialist and weapons manufacturer. The conference was bombed, apparently by anarchists, killing all the attendees and destroying one of the hotel's dining rooms. In reality, however, the bombing was a cover-up for the assassination of Meinhard by Colonel Sebastian Moran on the orders of Professor James Moriarty.
Trivia[]
- This location does not exist in real life: the Opera actually faces onto the lengthy Avenue de l'Opéra, built along with the opera in the 1870s as part of Baron Haussmann's redevelopment of Paris.
