Dr Moore Agar was a British physician. His offices were situated in Harley Street in London, a thoroughfare notable for its concentration of medical offices and located not far from Baker Street. He was an acquaintance of Sherlock Holmes, and apparently at one point served as his personal doctor. In March 1897, Dr. Agar noticed that Holmes' generally strong constitution showed some signs of strain. Concerned that his excessive professional exertions could cause a nervous breakdown, he demanded Holmes take an enforced vacation of strictest rest. Holmes reluctantly agreed, and he and Watson rented a cottage in Cornwall. Unfortunately for Dr. Agar, Holmes' vacation is soon interrupted when disasters strikes a wealthy local family, a case Watson chronicles in "The Adventure of the Devil's Foot".
