Sherlock Holmes (Rathbone) refers to the version of Sherlock Holmes portrayed by English actor Basil Rathbone. He appeared in a series of fourteen US-produced films based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories that were released between 1939 and 1946. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce played Holmes and Doctor Watson respectively.
Basil Rathbone's Holmes is probably one of the more iconic versions of the character, as the version from his films popularized the deer stalker cap, a hat which the original version only wore while in the countryside. The Magnifying Glass imagery also originates from Rathbone's version.
