Hello everybody,
why the "set in" for this story is dated to 1888 ? I have already seen this in another discussion about July or September 1988 ? Yes, I know, Watson says " About six years ago — to be exact, upon the fourth of May, 1882 ...", means 1882 plus 6 is 1888. But how we know, Watson is always confused a little bit.
If I see to the rest of the canon: Watson fall in love to Mary Morstan within this story, but in 1887, there are a lot of short stories, Watson is already married with Mary, he lives in his own house with her and has to visit Holmes in the Baker Street for new adventures. I'd expected the wedding in the early days of 1887.
So this novel should have a "set in" of 1886, July or September. But this is another discussion.
