Wouldn't mind your input on this

Hello, I just wanted to ask if you could have a look at this talk page discussion as I'm not sure how to proceed and I'd appreciate a second opinion: Is this notable enough to get an article?. --Amateur Obsessive (talk) 14:54, March 9, 2016 (UTC)

Hello TLane, I understand you are an admin but I think we might have an issue with you. You are adding the information I deleted again and again on the page Sultan of Turkey, but there is a reason why I deleted it.
First of all, I think this wiki is subjective when it comes to many subjects. But the page "Sultan of Turkey" was a political propoganda before I edited it.
And I'm saying this as an Armenian (I'm not just an Armenian though). If something is written on a wiki it should be something proven or universally aproved. But things you add on the page are propagandas against Abdul Hamid II and they are not proven, nor universally approved.
Sorry for my rusty (it is not just rusty, I know) English.

Holmes and Watson

Hi TLane! I'm Mike with FANDOM's Community Development Team! I was wondering if it would be possible for me to add Holmes and Watson to the main page in some form? Definitely under the film section, but would you also be open to adding it into the main page slider? Also, would it be possible to add it to the main navigation? I realize that the film section there is full so adding it would necessitate removing an entry so I didn't want to go ahead and mess with anything. - {{SUBST:User:Cavalier One/signature}} 17:01, October 31, 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mike, I'd be happy for you to add it the film section and slider on the main page - just note I renamed it to Holmes & Watson (using an ampersand as consistent with the poster & Wikipedia). I also think it would be a great idea to add it to the main navigation bar. It could probably replace Sherlock Holmes Baffled or The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes in my opinion, since I doubt either of those are as much of a draw. But you may want to ask for input from other community members before removing either, at least as a courtesy. telane (talk) 01:21, November 4, 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me do that -- I've placed the film in the slider position and removed the Guy Ritchie films for now. Once the film has left the cinema you can just revert the edit to bring the Ritchie films section back. It's also in the film portal section. As per your suggestion, I've opened a thread on the forum about replacing an entry in the wiki navigation here. I also highlighted the thread so logged in users are aware of the discussion when they visit the site. - Cavalier One <staff/ > Talk 12:53, November 6, 2018 (UTC)

SEO and Sherlock game

Hello TLane, I hope all is well! Hopefully, things are getting better where you are.

We were wondering if you were ok with linking to Adaptations: Video Games or Category:Adaptation: video game? As well as perhaps add a link to the latest video game, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One on the main page of the wiki? These would certainly help improve SEO with the gaming content, as traffic currently is from the television or movie adaptations. It could certainly drive some traffic from the gaming community.

Let me know what you think! —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 06:28, June 23, 2020 (UTC)

I think it would be a great idea - I'm all for increasing traffic. I can add it to the main slider for now, and I've already put Chapter One in the "Coming Soon" box. I'd also like to add it in the list of adaptations below, but there's a logistical problem in that the navigation headings are all images, and we don't have one for "other adaptations"/video games. Unfortunately I don't know where those images originally came from. Honestly, that's part of a larger discussion about redesigning the main page (which frankly feels very stale to me), but regrettably I have neither the time nor technical ability to undertake a project like that. If you can easily get it on there, though, by all means go ahead. telane (talk) 04:03, June 24, 2020 (UTC)

Sounds good! I'm all for helping redesigning the main page as well. Including shifting from using graphical headers to actual headings, as they can help with search engine comprehension better. I can have something on a sandbox by the end of the week for you to approve? —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 21:27, June 29, 2020 (UTC)
That sounds great. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. As a formality I'll have to put it up for community approval once it's ready to be published, but I don't expect any opposition. telane (talk) 20:42, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'll have it ready by Saturday the latest! —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 08:34, July 10, 2020 (UTC)
I'm currently working on it here. I reduced the number of options featured to reduce choice paralysis, and alot are just placeholders, others can be filled there if you believe so. Perhaps even have the Enola Holmes film in the adaptions section since that's coming up. —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 22:15, July 11, 2020 (UTC)
I think this looks great, much cleaner and more modern. I'm very glad to get rid of most of those article links since I do think they makes the page look cluttered (and frankly many of them are of questionable notability). It's also great to have a functioning news feed (though can it be customized if something particular ought to be highlighted or removed?) In terms of design I think your mock-up is almost where it needs to be. There are just a few content-related changes I would make - please let me know if these make sense to you.
1. I would change first section ("Novels") to "Canon" or something similar. I'd swap out The Valley of Fear and The Sign of the Four for The Adventures and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.
2. I'd plan to another row to Adaptations for when Enola Holmes and The Irregulars come out, but it's not needed yet. I'd also change the title to specify "TV & Film Adaptations".
3. I would add a section for pastiche writing, highlighting books like Dust and Shadow and The House of Silk.
4. The video games section seems somewhat over-prominent, but if it drives traffic I'm all for it. I'd replace Jack the Ripper with Crimes & Punishments since I believe it's the most well-regarded of the recent games.
5. I would like to keep the "Coming soon" and "Discussions" widgets on the sidebar. I don't use the latter fiction personally, but it does seem to have regular activity. I'd also like to keep the "featured article" section and perhaps make it more prominent, though I admit it I'd need to regularly update that.
What are your thoughts? telane (talk) 19:44, July 12, 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for all the feedback! I've adjusted a couple things you've already mentioned. We could also add back discussions and coming soon as well. Like the coming soon, featured articles would need to be updated quite frequently as per best practices, "there is no clear indication that links such as these drive readers to pages". —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 08:13, July 13, 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for linking that page. After reading it, I think you're right to leave off the featured article section. Once the rest of the changes have been made, please let me know and I'll put the new design out for public comment. telane (talk) 19:15, July 14, 2020 (UTC)
I've updated the things on my sandbox. Is there more examples of the pastiche writing that could be linked beside the two mentioned? —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 05:14, July 21, 2020 (UTC)
I have a hard time filling the other spots. I think The Seven-Per-Cent Solution and The Beekeeper's Apprentice are the most popular, I'm just loath to spotlight them since I don't personally like either... Nevertheless, personal biases aside, they're arguably the most notable, so let's use them for now. telane (talk) 03:38, July 23, 2020 (UTC)
I've added it to my sandbox. Feel free to share with the community for their thoughts.—TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 07:27, July 24, 2020 (UTC)
I see there's a consensus regarding the mainpage. Mind if I go ahead and import it to the wiki? —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 20:41, August 3, 2020 (UTC)

Hi Timeshade, I agree. I gave two weeks for comments, but from the feedback we got I think it's OK to wrap it up a little early. I'll go ahead and respond to and close the notice. Go ahead and import it. Great job, by the way - no negative feedback at all! Telane (talk) 21:38, August 8, 2020 (UTC)

Hey TLane, I recently noticed infoboxes aren't portable at the moment. Would you be ok if we migrated the infoboxes to be portable? I'll work to make sure the infoboxes retain the same style on desktop unless of course there's another design you'd prefer. —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 19:54, August 18, 2020 (UTC)

I absolutely agree, this was going to be one of my next projects (when I got around to it). Please go ahead. Do you think the design needs any updating? With the exception of the Movie template, I think I modernized most of the other high-use templates a while back. I would also, if possible, like to get all the infobox templates on a consistent naming pattern, based on the Fandom standard (probably Template:Infobox so-and-so (some are currently just named Template:Character, etc.). However, I don't know if there's a way to do that that doesn't imply a lot of manual editing of articles. Telane (talk) 00:59, August 22, 2020 (UTC)
Great, I've updated the remaining infoboxes which have yet to be converted to portable that are still in use. The update of the template name could be done with the use of AWB.—TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 06:44, August 26, 2020 (UTC)

Hello again, hope all is well and excited for Enola Holmes in a couple weeks!

To help prepare that, what do you think about expanding navboxes for iterations of characters? This could help users easily navigate the various iterations. Especially in cases such as Enola Holmes. While Eurus is an entirely different character, perhaps a way to be flexible in these areas, such as having one for "Sherlock Holmes' sister".

According to Special:Analytics, Eurus Holmes remains the trending page on this wiki, despite the Enola Holmes trailer which was recently released.

Let me know what you think! —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 08:29, September 9, 2020 (UTC)

Could you show me an example of what you're thinking? In concept, I think that could be useful. I assume you're talking about the kind they have on Wikipedia, such as at the bottom of this page? I don't think we've ever used navboxes on this site, but to me it would make sense to use them for both versions of the same character (I.e. Canon Sherlock Holmes, Brett, Downey, etc.) and then for topics across a particular series (i.e. Sherlock Holmes canon, Elementary, etc.) I don't really think it makes sense to put Enola and Eurus in the same navbox, since they're not related, but we could add a "Did you mean" link at the top of each article since people frequently seem to confuse them. Telane (talk) 20:03, September 10, 2020 (UTC)
correct, something like on the Wikipedia page. There were a couple, but only episode navboxes, such as for Elementary. But formatting wise, leaning more to one like the Wikipedia one. We could do that for Eurus/Enola as well.—TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 06:49, September 11, 2020 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Here are my initial thoughts on what we could use - let me know what you think.
1. Sherlock Holmes canon, with a section for main characters, secondary characters, and books + short stories divided by collection
2. Sherlock, with the same first two divisions, then episodes divided by series
3. Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, same divisions
4. "Versions of character" inboxes for Holmes, Watson, Moriarty, Mycroft... let me know if you think anyone else needs one. Not sure what the best way would be to display information so it doesn't end up looking repetitive, i.e. "Holmes (Brett) - Holmes (Cumberbatch) - Holmes (Downey)"... perhaps you have an idea? I think it should ideally mention the series and actor.
Don't worry too much about making them comprehensive now, I can go in and add/modify the template as necessary once the basic form is set up. Telane (talk) 19:42, September 11, 2020 (UTC)
I've set up a general structure here: {{Sherlock_Holmes_Canon_Navbox}}. Would this format work for you for the rest? —TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 23:47, September 19, 2020 (UTC)
Yes, that looks perfect. Just set up the other ones and I'll start adding them to pages and modifying them as necessary. Telane (talk) 00:30, September 20, 2020 (UTC)
Great, I'll get on the rest. On a side note, would you be ok for setting a background for Enola Holmes for a few weeks? I've drafted one on my sandbox.—TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 18:20, September 24, 2020 (UTC)
Sure, looks good, feel free to change it. Telane (talk) 19:07, September 24, 2020 (UTC)
Hey, our CM made an alternative one, which wouldn't have the text from the posters cut off. I updated it on my sandbox wiki. Would you prefer that one?—TIMESHADE @fandom |Talk/Wall| - |C| 18:51, September 28, 2020 (UTC)

Enola Holmes page

Hi there! I see you've also been working on Enola Holmes content. I should have introduced myself sooner, and I apologize for that. I am a Content Team Member for Fandom and was assigned to this movie's content. I just finished the plot summary, and will begin adding images soon. However, I wanted to ask if there's any intention of creating Enola Holmes or Sherlock Holmes pages specific to this release, and how we could go about naming said pages. Thanks

Hello! Pleasure to meet you. I've been meaning to introduce myself as well since I saw you adding the film synopsis. Thank you for your contribution! To answer your question, the general convention here is to distinguish versions of characters in different adaptations by their actor, e.g. Sherlock Holmes (Brett) or Inspector Lestrade (Marsan). I've gone ahead and created a skeleton Sherlock Holmes (Cavill) article; feel free to expand that (and replace the picture), or do the same for any other significant character. I don't think there needs to be a separate article for the film version of Enola, however; that can probably be put on the existing Enola Holmes article, as the film is more notable at this point. Telane (talk) 20:02, September 25, 2020 (UTC)
Sounds great, thank you! Tono555 @fandom Korra-chao2.gif 04:58, September 29, 2020 (UTC)
I wanted to give you an update. I've updated Enola's page, so it should now be complete, as well as the movie's page. I'll add content to Sherlock's page as well, and switch the images up a little (I usually base myself on the plot summary for content addition, which is why Enola and the movie's page are so similar). I'll follow whatever standards you already have set, but I'll keep you posted here anyway :) Should be done soon. Tono555 @fandom Korra-chao2.gif 06:01, September 29, 2020 (UTC)
